Match Review LS5 | Kuala Lumpur City FC 1-0 Selangor FC | Time To Reflect

Yesterday was a bitter situation to swallow. That was the reaction of the Selangor FC squad who had to accept the result at Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium after narrowly losing 0-1 to local rivals, Kuala Lumpur City (KLC) in the 5th match of the 2024/25 Super League.

According to Nidzam Jamil, Head Coach of Selangor FC, there are many lessons to be taken from this match, "When we lose, there are many things we will think about, especially the things we need to improve. One of them is mistakes and small details that need to be emphasised. This is what distinguishes yesterday's match. When it comes to a derby match, it is bound to have a deeper impact. The lesson I took from this match is to reflect again with the players," explained Nidzam Jamil.

Making several changes in the starting line-up, Selangor FC started fiercely in trying to force the opponent's fortress, but the defensive line of The City Boys remained able to absorb the pressure from the Red Giants. In an effort to find a goal in the second half, the defence was punished after Kuala Lumpur winger, Jovan Motika appeared as the only scorer of the match in the 63rd minute, which caused the Red Giants squad to lose composure of the match. The score remained 1-0 until the final whistle.

However, according to #KLCSFC match statistics, the Red Giants dominated the game with 63% ball possession, 85% passing accuracy, and 13 attempts despite the result not being the team’s favour.

The management of Selangor FC would like to thank the supporters who came together to the Football Stadium, Kuala Lumpur yesterday to support the team until the end of the match. We appreciate the energy and enthusiasm displayed throughout the match even though it ended with an undesirable result.

We are confident that the team will bounce back from this defeat. The line of coaches and players will continue the journey by reflecting on what happened in this match. Next, the Red Giants squad will fly to Kuala Terengganu for the FA Cup Semi-Final first leg on this Friday (July 19th).
